Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee - Learn How To Get Money

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee is the second game of a series of games from the Oddworld franchise.

At first glance, the peculiar characters and the weird setting might throw some people off, but I assure you, this is one of the most interactive and delightful games that you can play on your Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS devices, and even on your PC.

Meet The Characters

Oddworld reintroduces us to a few of our favorite characters from previous games while introducing us to some new characters. Munch's Oddysee brings back Abe, who has been our protagonist in the past few games.

With the ability to command an army, Abe also retains the ability to pick up and throw Mudokons either to safety or to their deaths. I'll tell you more about each character's strengths and weaknesses later on in the guide.

Munch is the newest addition to the game's line of protagonists. Munch joins Abe in his journey and is pretty much the last of his race. This one-legged creature is a victim of the evil Vykker and is more at home in the water than he is on land.

Munch is typically used when large bodies of water block Abe. He might be very slow on land, but he does very well underwater. Munch can also be placed in a wheelchair, and then he can slide faster than Abe.

Consider Each Character's Strengths And Weaknesses

I've noticed that there are certain areas in the game where I have to switch back and forth between Abe and Munch. There are situations that Abe handles better, and there are other circumstances that the player should control Munch.

Knowing each character's strengths and weaknesses will help you gauge whether it is best to use Abe in a certain situation or Munch in another situation. For example, Abe is best used on land as he pretty much sinks when he goes on water. On the other hand, Munch is fast in the water but is normally very slow on land and cannot jump high, unlike Abe.

Use these limitations as well as strengths to good use. For example, I tend to use Munch to go around large bodies of water or if there is a small space that you need to navigate. Meanwhile, I swap to Abe whenever I need to reach something overhead or if I need to run away from certain traps or mobs.

Introduction To Spooce And Quarma

You'll notice that there is a lot of spore-like vegetation scattered across Oddworld. When you step on what is called a SpooceShrub, you'll see that it produces a tiny green goo called Spooce. Spooce is Abe's source of power and can be gathered throughout the game to boost his skills.

Spooce is a precious resource in the game apart from many others that we can use. It is required to unlock doors, upgrade other Mudokan, resurrect them, or even possess enemies. In each level, you'll need to gather enough Spooce to unlock all the doors and finish the level.

Quarma features the morality of my character in the game. It is represented in a meter starting at 50, which is the middle, then it is up to me to decide whether I want to go for the positive Quarma by rescuing others or killing them, which results in negative Quarma.

Quarma is calculated after each mission throughout the game. In the end, the actions I make within the game will dictate how much Quarma I will receive.

Getting Money Or Moolah In Oddworld

Oddworld uses a currency known as money or moolah to purchase crafting materials needed within the game.

There are many things to do to get money in this game, but the most effective way is to possess enemies to convince them to donate their life savings to the Lulu Fund. I then use the funds to buy the materials that I need and save the rest of the character.

Use the last moolah to buy back the last remaining can of Gabbiar at an auction.

Maximizing Positive Quarma

Everything I do in the game affects my Quarma. If I do something good, it adds to my positive side, while doing something evil will contribute to negative Quarma. I can tell if I have more positive Quarma than negative by looking at the halo on top of my character.

The actions that I do in the game will dictate how the game will play out. Having positive Quarma will lead to a happy ending and will reveal two bonus levels in the game. Maximizing positive Quarma will result in an angelic rating.

This means I will have to rescue every creature at every level and resurrect everyone that has died before leaving the area. Having an overall positive Quarma will also give a special newspaper scene at the end of the game.

Getting Negative Quarma

If you are feeling a bit evil, you can always go for negative Quarma. However, having negative Quarma will result in a scary ending and a bonus newspaper scene where you get tagged as true evil.

Getting negative Quarma is much more difficult than getting positive Quarma. You will need to kill every innocent creature you encounter and go out of your way to kill all characters.

I know it's a tad bit troublesome to do this, but if you genuinely want to embrace the dark side, go ahead and discover the ending of the game yourself.

Use Munch In Specific Situations

While the game is named after him, Munch can sometimes burden me as a player. He does a lot of things within the game and is quite helpful, though.

However, you will need to use Munch only in specific situations. He is pretty vulnerable, so I have to place him as far away from enemies as possible. If that is not the case, I usually put him near a resurrection pad where I can quickly revive him if he gets taken down.

It's not that Munch is a burden to me throughout the game. He does some things in particular situations, but there isn't enough use for him for most of the game.

However, when the situation suits him well, like moving through water or going through small and tight spaces to retrieve an object, he is helpful.

Get Unlimited Health

Oddworld can sometimes be very difficult to play, especially since mobs of creatures tend to attack you from all sides. They deal a tremendous amount of damage that can immediately take you out of the game. Fortunately, there is an excellent way to get unlimited health in this game.

This will require you to be quick with the controls. Make sure that either Abe or Munch has full health first and that you are near a health vendo before you can pull off this trick. Now, send the other character to attack and take some damage.

Drink the health potion using the healthy character and quickly tap Character Change. It will automatically heal the character back up but make sure to do this very quickly.

Using Different Vendos

I've already mentioned the use of health vendos; however, there are still many other vending machines or vendos in this game that you can take advantage of. Most vendos in Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee can only be used by specific characters.

Vendos such as Aqua Bounce Vendo can be only be used by Munch. This provides him the ability to jump out of the water to access a certain area. Another character-specific vendo is the Bounce Vendo where it can only be used by Abe to jump higher than the usual jumping height of the character.

The Expresso Vendo gives a speed boost to both characters, while the Invisible Vendo provides invisibility for a short amount of time for either character. Lastly, Lulu's Fund Vendo is a charity vendo and does not grant any abilities. It is only meant to donate some moolah towards Lulu.

Take Advantage Of Recycling Machines

There will be times in this game that I get overwhelmed by the number of creatures I have to deal with. Therefore, whenever there is a recycling machine at a certain level, I usually take advantage of its presence to clear some enemy creatures.

I use Abe to taunt the enemies and then switch to Munch to activate the recycling machine. As soon as the enemies follow, turn on the machine and lead the enemies into the recycling machine, which will kill them.

Just be sure to keep Munch's wheelchair away from the machine as it will also devour it. Don't worry, though, as Munch will just be thrown away to safety.

Conclusion

Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee continues the oddball adventures of Abe, and this time, he brings some friends to the party. Those who have played the original game will immediately slip right into Munch's Oddysee with its familiar controls, but it also provides enough challenges with its new style of gameplay and teamwork.

The game can be downloaded on various platforms such as Google Play Store, Apple App Store, and Steam.
