Is Clash of Clans (COC) A Chinese Game? Here Is Which Country Made COC

In this tense situation, the popularity of your favorite strategy game ‘Clash of Clans’ is also on the verge of crashing down. The players are at the confusion about whether COC is a Chinese App or not?

Clash of Clans is a free mobile strategy game that made its way on 2nd August 2012 for iOS devices and on 7th October 2013 for Android devices. Since its release, the game remains quite popular and topped the stores many times.

Between December 2012 to May 2013, COC remained among the top 5 downloaded games on App Store. In 2013, it became the third-highest game in revenue generated on the App Store and number one on the Google Play Store.

In 2014 it was generating revenue of $654,000 daily, and in 2015, it became the top-grossing app on both the App Store and Google Play Store with revenue of $1.5 million per day. In 2018, it generated more revenue than any app on the App Store has brought in a revenue of over $6.4 billion in total.

Origin of Clash of Clans

Clash of Clans has been developed and published by Supercell for both Android and iOS devices. Supercell was founded on 16th May 2010 and is currently a mobile game development company based in Helsinki, Finland.

In 2013, the Japanese group SoftBank bought a stake of 54pc in the Supercell. Later Tencent, the internet conglomerate, acquired up to 84pc of Supercell from the SoftBank as well as current and former employees. Tencent is a Chinese multinational multi-industry holding company that was founded in 1998.

So from the above discussion, it can be concluded that Clash of Clans was not a Chinese game initially, but after the acquisition of Supercell by Tencent, it can be considered as a Chinese game.
